We all love showing off our latest custom builds, sharing high-octane gameplay edits from The Bird Cage, and flexing team loadouts on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Seeing our community grow online is awesome, but because modern gel blasters look incredibly realistic on camera, how we post matters just as much as how we play.
In Singapore, public alarm laws apply online too. The police have previously received reports from members of the public who saw gel blaster photos or videos on social media, mistook them for real firearms, or thought they were painted pure black.
To protect yourself, keep our hobby safe, and avoid unnecessary police visits, here are the essential social media guidelines every BBGB player should follow before POSTING.
1. Watch Out for "Lighting Tricks" (The All-Black Illusion)
Under community guidelines, toy blasters must not be fully black to prevent them from looking identical to real firearms. However, camera angles, heavy filters, or poor indoor lighting can easily make a dark-colored blaster look pure black in photos or videos.
Check your lighting: Ensure your photos and video clips are well-lit so the actual color, metallic accents, or bright parts of your blaster are clearly visible.
Add the "Not Black" disclaimer: If shadows or moody lighting make your gear look darker than it actually is, explicitly state in your caption that the blaster is compliant and not black.
2. Mandatory Captions: The Two Golden Disclaimers
Whenever you upload photos, stories, or gameplay reels featuring your gear, always include disclaimers in your caption or on-screen text. Adding these quick lines immediately informs curious viewers, algorithms, and authorities that your video is harmless, legal recreational content.
Here is an example of a disclaimer:

3️⃣ PRIVATE VENUE ONLY / 仅限私密场地: Recorded & used exclusively in an approved private recreational arena (The Bird Cage, SG). 仅在新加坡批准的私密室内场馆内进行录制与使用。
4️⃣ SAFETY / 安全防护: Always wear eye protection and handle responsibly. 请务必佩戴防护眼镜，安全玩乐。
Why the Disclaimers Work
Adding explicit disclaimers and maintaining clear lighting acts as an immediate contextual safeguard:
Establishes No Intent to Deceive: It proves you were transparent about the item being a legal toy gel blaster.
Clarifies the Setting: Stating that the video was shot in an approved private venue prevents the public or authorities from assuming the blasters are being brandished in public spaces like void decks or carparks.
3. Keep Gameplay Footage Contextualized
When sharing clips of CQB drills, Speedgel matches, or target shooting:
Show the environment: Ensure your video clips clearly show safety gear (goggles/masks), target walls, or the private arena backdrop so viewers know it's a controlled sport setting.
Never film in public spaces: Never record "prank" videos, transitions, or aesthetic poses with your blaster in public areas like void decks, carparks, or streets—even if it's just for a quick 5-second TikTok trend.
Quick Checklist Before You Hit "Share"
Before publishing your next reel or post, check the following:
[ ] Is my blaster clearly visible and not looking like an illegal all-black firearm due to poor lighting?
[ ] Did I include the Toy Disclaimer in my caption?
[ ] Did I state that play took place in a Private/Approved Venue?
[ ] Is the content free of public spaces or anything else that may be misleading?
