Why Your Gear Bag Matters Just as Much as Your Blaster - A Guide to Carrying Your Gel Blaster in Singapore

Hey BlueBirds!

Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a beginner player, we all share one common goal: keeping the gel blasting hobby alive and thriving in Singapore.

But here’s the hard truth: because our blasters may look realistic, how we treat them outside the arena matters just as much as how we play inside it.

Through the years, we’ve seen a few incidents where players transported their gear openly or went through routine checks unprepared. This can cause genuine public alarm, lead to police intervention, and, worst of all, put our entire community at risk of stricter regulations or a total ban.

Let's explore how to transport your gear responsibly, navigate public transportation, and ensure the game remains safe for everyone.

1. The Golden Rule: Concealed Carry is Non-Negotiable

Whenever you are traveling to a gel blaster event, your blaster must be 100% invisible to the public.

  • Never open-carry: Walking down the street or standing at a void deck with your blaster exposed - even if you think it looks cool or obviously like a toy - is a fast track to a "999" call.

  • Use proper bags: The blaster should be completely zipped up and out of sight from the moment you leave your front door to the moment you step onto the play venue.

  • Keep it compact: If your blaster features a folding stock, fold it. A smaller package is easier to pack discreetly.

Remember: What you see as a harmless, fun toy, the general public might see as a threat. Avoid public alarm at all costs.

2. The MRT & Transit Dilemma: Why Bag Checks Escalate

Many of us rely on public transport to get around, but carrying a blaster onto the MRT comes with unique challenges.

MRT stations are high-security transit zones where routine, random bag checks are common. Station staff are trained to keep the public safe, but they are not gel blaster experts.

If an MRT officer opens your bag and sees a blaster, their immediate protocol is to err on the side of caution. They will assume the worst, escalate the situation, and call the transit police. Even if you're eventually cleared, you’ve just spent hours in a security room, delayed your commute, and put unnecessary stress on local authorities.

How to handle transit:

  • Consider private hire: To completely bypass public transit anxiety and bag checks, many players coordinate and carpool using Grab or taxis. Splitting the fare with your teammates makes this affordable and stress-free.

  • Keep your paperwork ready: If you must take public transport, always carry your purchase invoice, be it a physical copy or an electronic one. Every blaster bought from BBGB comes with official paperwork proving it is a legally and locally sourced, permit-compliant toy.

3. Got Stopped? Here is the BBGB Safety Net

If you do get stopped by transit security or the police, do not panic, do not argue, and do not reach for the blaster.

  • Keep calm and comply:

Cooperatively explain to the officer: "This is a toy gel blaster, that shoots gel balls. It is completely unloaded, has no battery connected, and is strictly for recreational use." Do not attempt to pull it out to "show" them unless explicitly instructed.

  • Present your BBGB paperwork promptly

Show them your purchase invoice or digital receipt from Bluebird Gelblasters. This immediately proves you bought the item legally from a registered local retailer.

  • Have them contact us if escalated.

If the officers need further verification, request that they contact us at BBGB. Because we keep meticulous records of all our sales, we will cross- check your name and blaster's serial/model info and provide the necessary verification to the authorities to help clear you as quickly as possible.

Play Hard, Play Smart

We love this sport, and we know you do too. But the privilege of playing gel ball in Singapore relies entirely on community self-regulation and mutual respect. One reckless mistake by a single player can impact the hobby for everyone.

Keep your gear concealed in public spaces, stay smart on our commutes, and keep the focus where it belongs: having fun and playing hard on the field.

See you guys on the field!
